From 2010-2014, John Abraham was appointed Chair of the Main UK ESRC Research Grants Panel (Open Competition) during which he was involved in reviewing and leading decisions on over 200 grant applications. His appointment as Chair followed his appointment as a Member of the main UK Research Grants Board (Open Competition) from 2008-2010. He has also been a Member of the ESRC’s Grant Delivery Group from 2010-2013, Vice-Chair of the ESRC’s Research Seminars Competition Panel from 2009-2012, and a Member of the ESRC’s Research Seminars Competition Panel from 2008-2009.
In 2000, John was invited by the Wellcome Trust to be a member of its Biomedical Ethics and Public Policy grant-awarding Panel. Soon after, in 2002, he was awarded the honour of Visiting Professorial Scholar by the Australian National University (ANU).
From 2006, he was Expert Overseas Advisor, Canadian Humanities and Social Sciences Research Council. Meanwhile, from 2005-2015, he was a member of the editorial boards of Current Drug Safety, Social Studies of Science, and New Genetics & Society.
In addition, John has delivered many public lectures to professional bodies, including the British Medical Association, Royal College of Psychiatrists, International Society for Pharmacovigilance, European Science Foundation, Society of Legal Scholars, European Congress of Toxicology, Royal College of Surgeons, International Society of Social Pharmacy, International Health Technology Assessment Association, and the European Public Health Alliance.
