John has worked on the political sociology of cost-effectiveness assessment and pharmaceutical pricing policy, particularly in the UK context. His work has focused on how pharmaceutical companies set prices and the adequacy of pricing regulation in the UK and beyond. John has also worked on the extent to which the UK’s National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE), now known as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, should be regarded as an effective regulatory agency to protect the NHS and the interests of public health, with reference to its regulation of the cost-effectiveness of pharmaceuticals.
